Thrifty finds

I found this cute little jar at a local thrift shop, for $1.00, and she was just so adorable, I couldn't leave her there! (oh yeah, and I am one of those people, who refers to projects as "her" or "him"...) So, I brought her home, took her apart, painted her (my new love: Oiled Rubbed Bronze), and reassembled. Of course, she had to be filled with some kind of goodie, afterall, we all need a little treat while crafting, right??? Chocolate would be my first choice, but I didn't have any, so Skittles it is!. I am linking up to "Get your craft on" at Today's Creative Blog. Go check out all the fabulous projects and inspirations there...I'm also linking to "Nifty Thrifty Tuesdays" at Coastal Charm. http://linda-coastalcharm.blogspot.com/ Thanks for stopping by, and please leave a comment, so I know you were here.

Metal Picture Hanger Project (and pool fun!)

Well, happy Monday to you! I had a crazy, busy weekend with my sister, finishing up a project, and I finally get to share! We have been trying to figure out what we were going to do with these metal photo holders, because we didn't want to just hang them on the wall as-is. We decided to mount them on a piece of thin plywood that was covered in burlap (love me some burlap!). I love the way it turned out. I used a dark red ribbon to attach mine to the plywood backer( sadly, you cannot see it in the photo, but it's cute), while my sister used a teal ribbon. I didn't get a photo of hers, but I love the way hers turned out...the black metal with the burlap and then the pop of teal...oh it looks so good! Anyway, this one is in my craft room, (which is still a work in progress). The weather got hot quickly, so we also put up our little pool, and the slip n slide, so the kids would be busy having fun, while we got to craft! It was such a fabulous weekend. I hope you also had a great weekend and enjoyed the weather, wherever you are!

Remove Your Shoes

Hello again! Here is another project, this one was inspired by Remove Your Shoes How Does She... (I just love them!)

I made two versions, one for inside the house (the big black framed one), and one for the outside ... I love pictures of kids' feet, they are soooo cute!! For the 'outside' picture, I had found a metal picture on clearance at Kohl's, for $1.49. I didn't like the little picture they had in the center of the frame, but I figured I could find a use for it somewhere...well, this is what I did: I mod podged a background paper, then mod podged the photo and the stickers on top of that. Simple! It's still inside my house, because I haven't made it over to Michael's to buy the clear acrylic sealer that I need to put on, before it goes to the front porch. The 'inside' picture was made in a frame that I already had laying around the house, and I added the chipboard letters, spray painted black, and they are mounted onto the back side of wrapping paper (it was the only thing I could find to fit in the back of the frame...it was so big!). I just made mats for each picture, to make them stand out a little, and that was done out of paper I already had (I have a little paper addiction!). So, I paid $1.49 plus the cost of printing the pictures, and that was for both projects! (of course, I still need to buy the sealer, which will be around $6 with the coupon). I love being thrifty, and of course, I love having pictures of my kids around the house...even ones of their chubby little feet!! Now, some may be wondering why I wanted these...well, my husband is from Russia, and it was their custom to remove shoes when entering someone's home, as a sign of respect. I know there are a lot of cultures who do that, but I certainly didn't grow up that way, so it took me awhile to get on that wagon...(but having five kids and wood floors has helped!) Anyhoo...it is very important to him, and it was his suggestion, once he saw the 'inspiration'( thanks to the gals at How Does She). I think they turned out cute, and regardless of whether anyone pays attention, I love them!!

Lamp for my daughter

Hi! Well, a few months ago, I fell in love with the lamps at Dimples and Dandelions, but, unfortunately, not so much with the price! So, I decided to make one for my daughters' room. Unfortunately, I cannot download the 'before' picture, but the lamp was UGLY. I got it at an antique store for $5. the base is plastic and was a mauve color, while the shade was black. (yes, black!) So I painted the base white, and was worried about the plastic (I didn't buy the spray paint made for plastic), but it has held up wonderfully. I then stripped the black fabric off the shade and recovered it in this fabulous lavender and white (with a very girly silvery accent), and added the feather boa trim. I LOVE this lamp! It was hard to give up, although my girls were begging for it to go in their room...I still love it. I would love to make one for my craft room...someday...So, for this total makeover, here is the cost breakdown:
Lamp $5 Fabric $3 Boa $3

I already had the ribbon, spray paint and fabric glue. So, for $11 I made this fab lamp...while I still admire the ones at Dimples and Dandelions, I am now excited to make my own version, and save at least $180 in the process (score!).
And, just a note, my hubby's camera is showing that date on every photo...even though I just took it today...guess I need to fix that! :)

Strawberry Pizza, part 2

ok, here's the picture, and now for the recipe:
Crust:
1/2 C butter 1/2 C sugar
1 tsp vanilla 1 C brown sugar
3/4 C flour 1-1/2 C oatmeal
1/2 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt

Mix all ingredients until well blended. Pat firmly onto pizza pan. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes (do not over bake).

Topping:
8 oz Cream cheese 3 TBSP sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Mix well, until all ingredients are completely blended. Spread evenly onto cooled crust. Slice strawberries and arrange on pizza. Drizzle strawberry glaze over top. Enjoy!

(Just a note: the original recipe also included kiwis, but since we don't like them, I left them out, but it makes a very pretty pizza with them on there!).

Strawberry Pizza!

Ok, I know there are a lot of Strawberry Pizza recipes out there, but this one is really the best! I got the recipe several years ago from my friend Wendy (thanks Wendy!), and I LOVE it!!! I am not really a 'fruit' dessert person...give me the choice of fruit or chocolate, and chocolate is the winner, every time. But, once in a while I like to pretend that I'm making a healthier choice for dessert, and make this one. It's so good! Not as easy as the one with the (premade) sugar cookie crust, but it's so worth the extra effort! I hope you try it and love it as much as me! ( I'll warn you, though...it's very sweet! ). Please let me know if you make it (and hopefully, love it).
